The Spotter 42 for use by sniper teams and long-range reconnaissance was designed with these tactical requirements and operating conditions in mind. It offers low initial magnification (6x) for use of suitable sight systems at night as well as high-peak magnification (42x) for use in identifying objects at great distances in daylight conditions.

These features are coupled with superb image resolution and imaging quality spanning the entire range of magnification and field of view with an illuminable, magnifying reticule and an integrated laser filter for vision protection.
